    Picnic 3.jpg
Rays of sunshine dance across the lawn.  A cool breeze sweeps gently through towering trees.  It's almost lunchtime.  On such a lovely day, it would a shame to stay indoors.

Pack up that picnic basket, gather the family and friends together, and hit the road to Braehead Manor and you'll find a shady spot under the "Traveller Tree" (where Gen Robert E Lee tied his famous horse Traveller in 1862 while he took breakfast).  It is one of the oldest...

Well, we hosted one here at Braehead Manor!

Mom Patty (of with-child Ashley) was the center of attention at this hugely successful Surprise Party given by husband Mike and friend Lori!  She was given lots of gifts and goodies from family and friends in attendance. . .items she will surely need when Baby visits their home!  Games played brought much laughter and a good time was had by all!

A spectacular wedding ceremony and reception here at Braehead Manor was held June 29, 2014.

A uniting of Latera (who was 1st runner up in the Country Idol competition, but Number 1 with us!) and Kevin who brought many of his family from Louisiana to attend the celebration.  Also, friends and family members arrived from all parts of the Country, including Florida, Maryland, etc.

The ceremony was presided over by Kevin's father and was a uniting of...
  • When Fireworks Go South. . .
    2014-06-26T14:49:27.231Z
Southerners, I believe, should not be trusted with fireworks.

It is not in our blood.  The North  had most of the artillery.  The South, which does not always think things through, entered The War believing its officer class could merely hurl mint juleps at the encroaching Yankees and glare insolently.

The Gallant John Pelham, Robert E. Lee's vaunted cannoneer, may have been the last Southerner to be truly trusted with a lit fuse.  Since him, there...

    " I think I shall never see a thing as lovely as a tree. . . . "

Carl Sandburg wrote that - wonder if  he ever saw a Japanese Bell Tree like the one that frames the front door of Braehead Manor?

More beauty on the grounds of Braehead - great for photography!

James, Jr. for the weekend.  (Pictured here in front of the original ice house.)

  • Easter at Braehead Manor

    Easter 2.jpg
God's beauty was the backdrop for our Easter Celebration at Braehead Manor.  3 generations of 3 families; the Banes, the Brandts and the Heaths, gathered on the Terrace amidst blooming dogwood and rebud trees. . .it was a breathtaking view!

After Warren's blessing, we ate heartily of corned beef and cabbage, chicken cordon bleu, roasted potatoes and all the trimmings and drank wine, beer, tea and lemonade.  Kids and adults alike played games on the lawn under the bluest...

Our first outdoor wedding took place on a picture perfect Saturday, April 12 on the beautiful grounds of Braehead Manor under our trademark black walnut "Traveller" tree.  A radiant bride was given away by her sons, Nathan and Aiden, while the groom was accompanied by two puppies in tuxedos, Cooper and Tucker.

The wedding theme was burlap and lace, and Baby's Breath in Mason jars flanked the aisle, while hydrangeas and roses completed her bouquet.  The Terrace was then filled...
