  • Fall is in the air!!
    October 5, 2015
"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall"  F.Scott Fitzgerald
There are so many things that signify summer days are dwindling.
Maybe you pull out your box of sweaters for the first time in months, or you decide to make that chicken potpie for a nice warm dinner.  Your coffee goes from being iced with a straw to warm in a mug.  Maybe you start to take afternoon walks to enjoy the...

  • An Afternoon Outdoors --- It's a Fabulous Fall!
    September 17, 2014
    Picnic 3.jpg
Rays of sunshine dance across the lawn.  A cool breeze sweeps gently through towering trees.  It's almost lunchtime.  On such a lovely day, it would a shame to stay indoors.
Pack up that picnic basket, gather the family and friends together, and hit the road to Braehead Manor and you'll find a shady spot under the "Traveller Tree" (where Gen Robert E Lee tied his famous horse Traveller in 1862 while he took breakfast).  It is one of the oldest...
  • Have you even heard of a "Grammy" Shower?
    August 9, 2014

Well, we hosted one here at Braehead Manor!
Mom Patty (of with-child Ashley) was the center of attention at this hugely successful Surprise Party given by husband Mike and friend Lori!  She was given lots of gifts and goodies from family and friends in attendance. . .items she will surely need when Baby visits their home!  Games played brought much laughter and a good time was had by all!
Mimosas, mini crab cakes, spring rolls, assorted pastries...

  • A Beautiful Wedding uniting Kevin and Latera….
    July 4, 2014
A spectacular wedding ceremony and reception here at Braehead Manor was held June 29, 2014.
A uniting of Latera (who was 1st runner up in the Country Idol competition, but Number 1 with us!) and Kevin who brought many of his family from Louisiana to attend the celebration.  Also, friends and family members arrived from all parts of the Country, including Florida, Maryland, etc.
The ceremony was presided over by Kevin's father and was a uniting of...
  • When Fireworks Go South. . .
    June 26, 2014
Southerners, I believe, should not be trusted with fireworks.
It is not in our blood.  The North  had most of the artillery.  The South, which does not always think things through, entered The War believing its officer class could merely hurl mint juleps at the encroaching Yankees and glare insolently.
The Gallant John Pelham, Robert E. Lee's vaunted cannoneer, may have been the last Southerner to be truly trusted with a lit fuse.  Since him, there...
  • Carl Sandburg wrote . . . .
    May 27, 2014
    " I think I shall never see a thing as lovely as a tree. . . . "
Carl Sandburg wrote that - wonder if  he ever saw a Japanese Bell Tree like the one that frames the front door of Braehead Manor?
More beauty on the grounds of Braehead - great for photography!

  • Busy Weekend at Braehead Manor!
    May 3, 2014
Spotsylvania Courthouse area is where the 150 anniversary reinactment for the Spotsylvania and Wilderness Battles will take place.  We won't have to go that far to participate in it as we are proud to host Brigadier General Charles C. James, Jr. for the weekend.  (Pictured here in front of the original ice house.)
More pictures will be available, so please check back often.

  • Book Club Luncheon - a Success!
    April 27, 2014
After a tour of Braehead Manor, the ladies settled in with shaved cheese and crackers, and Mimosas, etc.
Onto a lunch of chicken Cordon Bleu rolades, garlic roasted baby Ruby Red potatoes, specialty spinach salad and corn muffins all prepared by Innkeeper Karen.  After a dessert of lemon chess cups with chocolate lace cookies, coffee and iced teas, the ladies settled into a lively discussion of "Mrs. Lincoln's Seamstress".
Good weather, good company, good conversation and good food meant for...
