Jane Howison Beale Suite


Jane Howison Beale, the famous diarist of the Civil War and sister of John and Robert Reid Howison, escaped the horrors of the siege of the City of Fredericksburg by retiring with her children to Braehead.  This two room suite has its own bathroom and is located off the library and includes period furniture. 


Price: $195 per night (2 person occupancy, including gourmet breakfast)

           Minimum two night stay on holiday weekends.

The Graham Stephens Suite


The last family member in the Howison line to own Braehead, retired emergency room physician Graham Stepehens ensured the legacy of Braehead lived on by including almost all of the period furniture original to the manor when the manor was sold.   This two room connected suite located on the south side of the manor boasts spacious sleeping arrnagements, a sitting room and its own bath.  The sitting room trundle bed can be utilized for sleeping arrangements for additional guests.

The Robert Reid Howison Room


After the Civil War, John Howison, original owner of Braehead fell on hard times having lost two sons in the war and also losing his wife during this time.  John's brother, Robert Reid Howison, a prominent Richmond lawyer and later a Presbyterian minister, took over the home and its mortgage.  This guest room has been known through the years as Robert Reid's room and is where this Virginia gentleman stayed.  The room boasts some of the only orginial closets in the manor and has its own private bath.

Price: $175 per night (2 person occupancy, including gourmet breakfast)

Amenities at Braehead Manor


Guest Room(s)

We have 3 guest rooms each with a private bath supplied with “Cali” Italian Olive Oil bath products, a hair dryer, and plush bamboo towels.


All rooms have pillow top Queen mattresses, high-end sheets, down quilts and comforters, and luxurious terry robes.

For your convenience refrigerators stocked with water are in each room and Kuerig coffee, tea & hot chocolate are located just outside each room. Extras are alarm clocks, ceiling fans and extra pillows.


Modern amenities complement the historic architecture of Braehead.

Built in 1859 restored in 2011, Braehead Manor was named to the National Register of Historic Places.


Gourmet Breakfast

A candlelight Gourmet Breakfast is served each morning at 8:30.


Common Area(s)

A comfortable library room with  TV and books is located on the lower level and opens to a magnificent stone terrace.


Through the long hallway and throughout the Manor home are many signed Civil War prints which reinforce the historical aspect of Braehead.


Wireless Internet is available throughout the Manor home.



On the grounds, which consist of 27 acres tucked inside the Fredericksburg National Battlefield Park are hiking areas, the original ice house, and lots of places for picnicing, bird watching or just strolling.

Several spacious slate, stone and brick terraces are places for you to enjoy a glass of sweet tea or a local wine.


Braehead Manor is a perfect location for a small executive meeting and/or retreat, as well as small engagement parties, bridal shower, or baby showers or sprinkles. Braehead Manor also is the ideal getaway for a girls’ only weekend, a Spa party or Bunco game night.
